Longtime Detroit Tigers pitcher Buck Farmer is set to begin the 2022 MLB campaign as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. According to various reports, the Reds selected Farmer’s contract on Thursday and he will be part of the team’s Opening Day roster.

Farmer was released from the Tigers on Aug. 17 last season, ending an eight-season run in Detroit for the right-handed reliever. In his career with the Tigers, he posted a career ERA of 5.33. Last year, Farmer made 36 relief appearances with a 6.37 ERA in 35.1 innings of work.

The Reds originally signed Farmer to a minor league contract back in mid-March. The 31-year-old Farmer did sign a minor league contract in Aug. 2021 with Texas after being dropped by the Tigers, but he never made an appearance with the Rangers.

The Reds open the season tonight at 8:08 p.m. against the Atlanta Braves.
