Jasper native and former star player for Indiana University Michael Lewis was introduced as Ball State University’s new head men’s basketball coach at the Dr. Don Shondell Practice Center, just down the hall from Coach Lewis’ new office at Worthen Arena.

Lewis appeared emotional at times, reflecting on his home state and how much of an honor he feels it is to coach at Ball State.

Here’s an excerpt from yesterday’s introduction, courtesy of BallStateSports.com, where Coach Lewis pretty much says it all:

The Ball State Daily News reports Lewis is under contract with Ball State for six years, with a base salary of $335,000 plus incentive-based bonuses.

Lewis was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech for Coach Bob Knight, and an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin, Eastern Illinois, Butler, Nebraska.  He spent the last three seasons at UCLA as an assistant coach to Mick Cronin before accepting his new post in Muncie.
