Greg Monroe is signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Monroe, 31, played three games with the Wolves shortly after Christmas when he was on a 10-day contract with the club. In his first game he posted 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, 1 block and 2 steals in just 25 minutes.

In 22 minutes the next night, Monroe filled the stat sheet against the Knicks with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

He's been nearly as effective in limited minutes with the Wizards, Bucks and Jazz this season, having bounced around the league on 10-day contracts after being out of the league in 2020 and 2021.

The Wolves have just two games left in the regular season – Thursday against the Spurs and Sunday against the Bulls, both at home – so it's unclear if Monroe will be part of Minnesota's playoff run. NBA roster rules, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, allow for up to 15 active players on the roster during the regular season and the playoffs.

If he's part of the playoff roster, he'll give head coach Chris Finch another big man option alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and Naz Reid. Big bodies could be critical in a 7-game series, though Minnesota first will likely have to make it out of the play-in tournament.
