Enterprise’s new publisher brings range of experience

The Holyoke Enterprise has a new publisher. Frank Perea joined the Mullen Newspapers organization this week and quickly went to work.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to be the publisher of The Imperial Republican, The Grant Tribune-Sentinel and The Holyoke Enterprise, with the rich tradition of local reporting and being relevant to the diverse readership and businesses throughout Chase, Phillips and Perkins counties,” Perea said.

Perea, a veteran newspaper publisher, comes from Wyoming, where he oversaw business marketing for a small group of community newspapers. Before that, he served as a publisher for several newspapers in Oregon.

He came to Oregon by way of Montana, where he was a group publisher with Yellowstone Newspapers. Perea has also been employed by one of the nation’s largest news organizations as its publisher of half a dozen weeklies in the Black Hills and general manager of a large daily just outside of Chicago, Illinois.

Perea said that when asking readers what they would like to see in their newspaper, they typically respond by saying more community photos and local news.

“This mirrors my philosophy to increase community coverage while running features that stimulate conversation within the community,” he said.

With changes in media companies throughout the country, Perea added, “It is my hope that you will find our commitment to local content, investment within our community, and editorial coverage informative and engaging.”

Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, mountain biking and traveling. He’s learning golf and loves reading and watching action movies.

Perea invited readers to stop in and let the staff know how they can improve their community newspaper as they reinvest in their business and our community.

“We will strive to be representative of all community members’ interests,” he said.
