A man from Pittsburg was recently arrested for stealing catalytic converters at a local business.

Brett David Perry, 35, was taken into custody by Camp County Sheriff’s Office on April 1. His charge was a felony theft charge of more than $2,500 and under $29,999. Reportedly, he had been stealing catalytic converters – at least 28 were recovered – while working at a local business.

According to the Pittsburg Police Department, they received a report of a catalytic converter being stolen off a Nelson Propane company truck on March 30. An anonymous tip led investigators to follow up on a lead regarding the purchase of blades for a saw. From there, the Mount Pleasant Police Department joined in the investigation and the departments were able to recover 28 illegally obtained catalytic converters at a local business.

According to Pittsburg Police Department, they were able to positively match the truck part to the original company vehicle – this is when an arrest warrant was issued for Perry.

Pittsburg Police Department said the investigation regarding the business in Mount Pleasant and confiscated parts recovered could also be related to thefts in neighboring areas.

“A theft like this can be very costly for the owner of the vehicle,” Pittsburg Police Chief Matthew Lemarr said. “One converter can cost almost $3,000 to replace.”
