Recruiting: Top Wisconsin prospect Nate White talks Iowa State visit

Iowa State welcomed a number of prospects on recruiting visits to Ames over the weekend. None of which, however, were rated as highly in their own state as Nate White.

A 6-foot, 175-pound running back, White is rated as the top prospect in the state of Wisconsin by 247Sports. That’s not something he stresses over, though.

“It feels good to have the work paying off, but there’s always more work to be done,” White told Cyclone Fanatic. “It feels good and all, but I don’t pay attention too much to where it might knock me off track or get me to lose focus.”

White currently holds six scholarship offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin.

Growing up in a state dominated by the university, White noted that he grew up watching the Badgers.

“It’s hard not to be a Badger fan,” White said. “I did (grow up rooting for them) a little bit, but I watched some other schools, too – pretty much whoever was on TV.”

White was accompanied on part of his visit by redshirt freshman Eli Sanders as well as others visiting over the weekend.

“We really saw a bond in each other,” White said. “I think it would be nice (if we ended up at the same school). Yeah, I liked those guys.”

He and the group of prospects in town on Friday got to take in Iowa State’s open practice at Ames High School. The program is also set to host another group this weekend which includes an open practice at Gilbert.

“It was nice,” White said. “I liked it. The main thing that stood out was seeing how close the guys were. They talked about being close and being noticed in public when you go out in Iowa State gear – being a big thing in the community, pretty much.”

The three-star recruit added that he got to see the difference in speed between the high school and college games, as well as the community that showed up in the stands.

White is not looking to make his decision until later in the summer, a bit closer to his senior year of high school at King HS in Milwaukee.
