April 5 Municipal Election results

Many races from across Barton County were included on the April 5 municipal election ballot. Please note that some of these totals do not include other counties; this is strictly the results from Barton County.

Of the contested races, Ben Huber won over Jerry Sherron with a total vote of 32-17, in the race for Golden City Fire Protection District Proposition 1 with a six year term and Alan Stalker, who was running uncontested, won for Proposition II with a four year term.

In a highly contested race for Lamar R-1 School Board, two individuals were voted in for a term of three years, with incumbent Daniel Whyman winning with 256 votes and newcomer Jeremy Fowler also winning with a total of 195 votes. Charles Winslow ended up receiving 187 votes; Rile Friend, 106 and Angela Dawn Moore, 164.

Two individuals were selected for the Golden City R-3 School Board for Proposition 1 with a term of three years, with Chris Peterson receiving 72 votes and Nicholas Ramsay Renfro receiving 69. Cynthia Ann Dillon received 55. Joseph Allen Neidigh received 97 votes for Golden City R-3 Proposition II, for a term of one year.

Voters in Barton County approved Chris Lehman with 46 votes and Jamie Kaderly with 44 votes for Jasper R-5 School Proposition One, with a term of three years each.

Proposition I in Golden City, stating, “Shall the City of Golden City, Missouri be authorized to forgo annual elections if the number of candidates who have filed for a particular office is equal to the number of positions in the office to be filled by the election” passed with 43 yes votes and 22 no. Proposition II, stating, “Shall the City of Golden City impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action, failed with 27 yes votes and 37 nos.

Jimmy Wayne Smith III was elected mayor for the City of Liberal with 121 votes, as opposed to Terry Burke who received 54. This is for a two year term.

The only contested race for City of Lamar Alderman Ward II, with a two year term, had John Gilkey receiving 84 votes to Eva Roland Buchanan’s 31 votes.

City of Mindenmines Proposition II stating, “Shall the City of Mindenmines, Missouri be authorized to forgo annual elections if the number of candidates who have filed for a particular office is equal to the number of positions in the office to be filled by the election” passed with 18 yes votes as opposed to eight no votes.

Jasper Fire Department Proposition II, stating, “Shall the Board of Directors of the Jasper Fire Protection District be authorized to increase the annual tax rate from thirty cents to sixty cents on the hundred dollars assessed valuation to improve the district, including the ability to hire more full-time firefighters, failed by 30 votes, with 56 no votes and 26 yes votes.

The Liberal Fire Department was convincingly approved to incorporate a Liberal Fire Protection District supported by a levy up to thirty cents per $100 assessed valuation with 302 yes votes and 88 against.

Proposition I with Barton City Township stating, “Shall the Barton County Township road district of Barton County, Missouri levy an additional tax rate of twenty-five cents on the one hundred dollar assessed valuation for the years of 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, to be used for road maintenance of said township, passed with 28 yes votes and 19 nos.

Richland Township Proposition I, stating, “Shall the Richland Township road district of Barton County, Missouri levy an additional tax rate of forty cents on the one hundred dollar assessed valuation for the years of 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, to be used for road maintenance of said township”, passed with 24 yes votes and 17 nos.

Union Township Proposition 1, stating, “Shall the Union Township road district of Barton County, Missouri levy an additional tax rate of forty-seven cents on the one hundred dollar assessed valuation for the years of 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, to be used for road maintenance of said township” passed with 22 yes votes and 15 nos.
