Why Ariana Grande, Halle Bailey, and Cardi B Didn't Attend the Grammys 2022

The Grammys 2022 are as star-studded as ever, with everyone from BTS to Lady Gaga to Lil Nas X in attendance, but… Ariana Grande, WYA? We couldn't help but notice Ariana's absence from this year's red carpet, along with a few more of our faves, like Halle Bailey, Charli XCX, and Cardi B. Here's why these mega celebs did not attend the 2022 ceremony.

Ariana Grande

Ariana, who was nominated at the 64th Grammy Awards in several categories, including Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Positions" the song and album, shared an Instagram gallery on April 3 of pics and videos from the recording of Positions, adding that she wouldn't make it to the show.

"I love this album so. It’s an honor to be recognized today alongside so many brilliant musicians and human beings that I love," she wrote. "To have each other, to have the gifts that we have, to share and feel heard ... is not something to take for granted, we’ve already won. :) Have a beautiful time, I am celebrating all of you there today!"

Ari didn't share exactly why she wasn't attending the show, but we're hoping that means she's at work on a new album. (Just an idea, Ari!)

Charli XCX

Charli XCX didn't attend the 2022 Grammys because she was performing at the same time. "I know it's the Grammys tonight but it's also my sold out show at the Greek in LA tonight which is essentially the gay Grammys where I win every award," she shared in a tweet. "So yeah."

Totally get it, Charli.

Halle Bailey

We love working women — Halle also couldn't make the show due to her busy schedule.

"But no guys no attending Grammys for me tonight I gotta be at work tomorrow," the actor-musician shared on Twitter with a laughing and heart emoji. Halle's sister Chloë Bailey did make it to the show, however, and stunned on the red carpet.

Cardi B

The reason Cardi B didn't attend this year's Grammys is fairly simple: “I'm not going to a [sic] award [show] if I don't got a new song to perform or my album ain't out… Next year,” Cardi shared on social media, per Billboard. Even though Cardi was nominated for Best Rap Performance at this year's show, her reasoning is pretty understandable.

However, many online didn't accept the rapper's absence from the show so easily. Cardi faced harassment online on Sunday night from disappointed fans who expected her to be at the ceremony, and began clashing with followers in a series of now-deleted tweets and an Instagram Live video, before ultimately deleting both her Twitter and Instagram accounts. According to Billboard, the last time Cardi took a break from social media was in March 2021.

Halsey

Though Halsey walked the Grammys 2022 red carpet in a sultry maroon and black ensemble, the singer was only present for part of the awards show. In an Instagram post prior to the ceremony, Halsey was transparent about attending this year's show only a few days after having surgery.

“The last time I attended the Grammys was 2017 and it was 3 days after I had my first Endometriosis surgery. I walked the carpet with my stitches still in,” Halsey said in their post, which included a photo of them wearing a hospital gown and face mask.

“As luck would have it, I’m attending tomorrow for the first time in years and I had surgery again (you guessed it) 3 days ago. Only posting this to say, if you see me be gentle lol I’m fragile. Fragile but excited,” they wrote alongside a smiley face and heart emoji.

About an hour into the show, Halsey posted an update on their Instagram story that they left the ceremony early. “Not feeling super well so I left early. Had to see BTS tho,” they wrote. “Going to get pasta and sleep. Thanks for everything luv u all.” The singer also posted a clip from the perspective of their seat, of BTS' show-stopping performance of “Butter.” We love a supportive friend.

We're wishing Halsey a full and restful recovery!

While this group of faves was definitely missed, the Grammys 2022 red carpet was one for the books, and a big night for stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, and Silk Sonic.
