Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine reunited with former co-star Suranne Jones at the season two premiere of Gentleman Jack on Tuesday night (March 29).

The duo were all smiles as they posed with their arms around each other on the red carpet, more than 17 years after they last shared the screen on Corrie.

McAlpine has been playing Fiz Stape on the hit soap since 2001 whilst Jones, who is currently playing Anne Lister on BBC's Gentleman Jack, made her debut on the cobbles back in 2000 as Karen McDonald, who she played for four years until leaving Weatherfield in 2004.

Since rising to fame on Coronation Street, Jones has gone on to star in a plethora of successful British shows, including Doctor Foster, Scott and Bailey and most recently the hit series Vigil.

She is currently set to reprise her BAFTA-nominated role as the cryptic diarist Anne Lister in season two of Gentleman Jack that starts next week (April 10).

Meanwhile, after nearly 21 years of playing the beloved Fiz Stape, McAlpine is set to leave Coronation Street.

The actress was originally meant to appear on the cobbles for only five episodes, but she impressed the producers so much that she is now one of the shows most recognisable characters.

After viewers saw Tyrone (Alan Halsall) cheat on Fiz and break up their long-running relationship, Fiz plans to move away from Weathefield for a fresh start with her new partner Phil (Jamie Kenna).

Speaking with Inside Soap back in December, McAlpine said that the post-Christmas scenes in which Fiz revealed to Tyrone that she wants to sell the house and move away were "so hard to film."

"Her memories of the house are tarnished now, and when Phil offers her a chance for a fresh start, Fiz decides that's just what she needs."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
