Coyotes star Clayton Keller won’t play again this season after falling awkwardly into the boards in the third period of Arizona’s 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Keller was removed from the ice on a stretcher and tweeted on Thursday morning from the hospital updating fans that his season was over because of the injury.
Keller was driving the puck towards San Jose’s net and got tangled with Sharks defenseman Nicolas Meloche. Keller lost his footing and tumbled feet-first into the boards and remained on the ice for nearly five minutes before being taken off in a stretcher.

This is an unfortunate end to what had been an excellent season for Keller. One of the few bright spots on the 21-41-5 Coyotes, Keller leads the team with 28 goals and 63 points. He reached a career high in goals and came two points shy of matching his career high of 65 points set back in his rookie season of 2017-18.
We don’t yet know the specifics of Keller’s injury, but Keller said in his tweet that he’ll be ready for the beginning of next season. Coyotes head coach André Tourigny said after the game that the injury will be long term but he’ll recover.
