Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature updates from spring practice, a young defensive back standing out, and thoughts from James Franklin and Mike Yurcich on quarterback Sean Clifford and the Nittany Lions offense.

Redshirt freshman safety Zakee Wheatley is “standing out” this spring as he makes the transition from cornerback, writes David Eckert for Blue-White Illustrated. James Franklin said Wheatley has a way of finding the ball and “the ball likes him” as he vies for position on Penn State’s new-look safety depth chart.

The topics of quarterbacks and run game once again emerged in talks with Franklin and Yurcich, including areas of improvement for returning starting quarterback Sean Clifford. Yurcich also answered questions about his three young quarterbacks and how reps are divvied out in practice, as recapped by Tyler Donohue from Lions247.
