It’s a sad day for The Young and the Restless’ Sharon: Jordi Vilasuso’s Rey was killed in a foggy car accident with her sometime sister-in-law Victoria.

“Playing Rey Rosales… for the past four years has been an incredible experience that has brought me immense joy as an actor,” Vilasuso said in a statement to Soap Opera Digest. “I want to thank [former executive producer/headwriter] Mal Young for creating the Rosales family and [ex-CBS executive] Angelica Rosas McDaniel for championing the representation of Hispanics on daytime’s No. 1 drama.” (Sadly, Rey was the last of the Rosaleses still in Genoa City.)

Vilasuso, a veteran of Guiding Light (as Tony), Days of Our Lives (as Dario) and All My Children (as Griffin), went on to express his gratitude to on-screen wife Sharon Case, “the best publicist in the business” Matt Kane, Sony Television boss Steve Kent, current EP Tony Morina and headwriter Josh Griffith, who, he noted, “gave me the opportunity to sink my teeth into storylines that were some of the highlights of my career in this genre.”

In closing, the Daytime Emmy winner (for Guiding Light) gave a shout-out to the whole cast and crew and said of the CBS soap that he’d no longer be calling home, “I will miss it, remember it fondly, and look forward to what the next chapter will be.”
