Arch Manning Pitched by Colt McCoy, Sam Ehlinger on Texas Recruiting Visit

Former Texas quarterbacks Colt McCoy and Sam Ehlinger were among the players to pitch prized QB prospect Arch Manning on the Longhorns program during a recent recruiting visit.

Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday that Manning was also greeted by UT head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff as they try to beat out Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss for the latest standout from the Manning family.

"When you recruit high-level players, we can't get impatient because we don't have guys just committing left and right," Sarkisian said. "We could get guys to commit, but they might not be the right guys for our program."

While Manning was always going to attract a lot of media attention because of his last name, he's backed up his status as a top prospect with terrific play at the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.

He's completed 64.8 percent of his passing attempts for 5,731 yards with 72 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 27 games across his first three high school seasons, per MaxPreps. He's added 671 rushing yards and 17 scores on the ground.

It's made Manning, the nephew of former NFL signal-callers Peyton and Eli, the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, based on 247Sports' composite rankings.

A commitment from the coveted recruit may not be too far away.

In October, the quarterback told John Garcia Jr. of Sports Illustrated he felt a decision could come as early as this spring.

"I think I'll have a good idea, a good feeling, probably around next summer or next spring," Manning said. "Right now I have no idea."

Landing Manning would be a massive boost to the Texas program, which is looking for a return to perennial national title contention, and Sarkisian, who's coming off a lackluster 5-7 record in his first season leading the Horns.

The Texas head coach can't comment directly on individual recruits, but he sounded an optimistic tone Tuesday about the early leg work being done on the 2023 class.

"Over time, if we do it the right way, we'll end up signing a great class," he said. "You know, we're in the very early stages of what we're doing, but I think we're doing it the right way, and we're progressing at the right kind of level."

Whenever Manning decides he's ready to make a commitment, it will be the most anticipated recruiting announcement in recent memory.
