On January 28, 2022, the Rangers honored Lundqvist by retiring his #30 to the Madison Square Garden rafters. It was an amazing night, and one that The King would never forget.

“The pursuit of becoming the best was always part of my journey,” Lundqvist told the Garden Faithful. “When I look back at my 15 years here, what gives me the most satisfaction is not the wins or the personal recognition, but it is really the commitment. The commitment I felt for the New York Rangers and the commitment they showed me for so long.

“While I reflect on my time here in New York, everything I experienced, the people I met, and what the game has given me, I keep coming back to one feeling– gratitude. I feel so grateful for everything this organization has given me, supporting me and my family.”

Here’s a brief preview at what Henrik Lundqvist will talk about tonight with JB Smoove.

On being inside Madison Square Garden

“I love that building. Every time I walk in there, you feel the pressure, the excitement, you feel alive. It’s different now when you’re retired though. As an athlete it’s all about performing. Now I walk in there and all I think about is memories and friendships. It’s more about feeling good and being happy. It’s been a very interesting year for me and I’m in a very good place.”

On his charitable work

“I moved here in ‘05 and the Rangers are so good at showing all the players how you can use your name and your platform to help other people. I’ve had so much fun over the years with the Garden of Dreams and Henrik Lundqvist Foundation. I’ve been able to involve my wife. And the kids have also been involved in a few projects. For them to see, the struggle, but also the excitement it brings when you do different things for other people. People that don’t expect to get that certain support, that’s powerful.”

Meanwhile, besides crushing it as an analyst, Lundqvist has been jamming live on stage at Webster Hall.

Rock on King.
