Carroll Merton Baker, 93, of Pender, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender.  The visitation will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Pender in Pender, with Pastor Dan Springer officiating.  Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.  Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Pender (504 Earl St., Pender, NE 68047) and St. Croix Hospice (1800 W Pasewalk Ave Suite 204, Norfolk, NE 6870).  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

Carroll was born on October 28, 1928, west of Pender at “Baker’s Corner” to Roy and Lucille (Phillips) Baker.  He attended and graduated from Pender High School in 1945.  On August 28, 1951, Carroll married Ruth Elaine Chaillie in Elk Point, SD.  Together the couple farmed and raised their three boys at “Baker’s Corner”.

Carroll was an avid waterfowl hunter, walleye fisherman, and always had a well-disciplined hunting dog.  He went on annual camping and fishing trips to Canada.  He enjoyed dancing and spending countless hours working in his famous garden.  Carroll was a member of the United Church of Pender and a past board member of District 10 Country School.  Later in life, Carroll and Ruth started traveling to Branson, MO.  Carroll loved spending time with his family and was well known for his fish fries.

Carroll is survived by his sons, Ken (Barb) Baker of Homer, Denny (Nancy) Baker of Pender, and Ron (Kathy) Baker of Pender; special friend, Jean Groves of Lawton, IA; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Carroll is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Ruth on October 13, 2012.
