There’s couple’s goals and then there’s the quietly elegant power duo that Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons have become this awards season, thanks to a run of excellent fashion choices. The Oscars 2022 cements this perfect marriage of style and substance. They are, say their stylists Nina and Clare, totally “in tune.”

Dunst, the poster girl for ethereal, feminine fashion, eschewed her favorite frilly Rodarte and Erdem storyteller prints for vintage Christian Lacroix on the red carpet. Her deep pink archival gown with dramatic ruffles signaled a greener approach to occasionwear on a night in Hollywood otherwise dedicated to celebrating the new. Kristen looked, as always, like a complete breath of fresh air. Regardless of what’s going on in fashion, she always stays in her own lane.

That’s not to say the best supporting actress nominee’s looks for her Power of the Dog promo tour have been boring. Far from it. At the Critics’ Choice Awards, cornflower blue Julie de Libran gown was a modern couturier’s delight—plus, it was decked out with chunky silver Fred Leighton jewelry. The SAGs flashed by in a swish of siren red Erdem sequins, and in the middle of it all was some seriously good leather Prada.

Plemons has been her constant in sharp Giorgio Armani, a brand that can always be relied upon for good suiting. Therein lies this star couple’s secret: Consistency goes a long way in an industry known for its fleeting flirtations. Kirsten and Jesse represent real romance.
