UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot named Most Outstanding Player

Armando Bacot of the UNC basketball program has been named the East Region’s Most Outstanding Player. 

The UNC basketball program is heading back to the Final Four, and junior big Armando Bacot played a major role in making it happen.

Over the last two games, Bacot has been dominant, as he’s scored 34 points while recording an astounding 37 rebounds in wins over UCLA and St. Peter’s. With his dominant rebounding effort against the Peacocks, Bacot also made some pretty impressive rebounding history as well.

For his standout performance, Bacot has been named the Most Outstanding Player in the East Region.

When it’s all said and done, Armando Bacot’s junior season in Chapel Hill will go down as one of the greatest individual seasons in North Carolina history. The Richmond, Virginia native not only recorded 1,000 career points but set numerous program records, including smashing Brice Johnson’s original single-season double-doubles record.

His success on the court isn’t a surprise to any of us, but his recent stretch is showing the college basketball world just how dominant of a force he is for the UNC basketball program.

Bacot was joined by Caleb Love and Brady Manek as selections for the All-Region team. The trio combined for 53 of the team’s 69 points in the Elite Eight victory over St. Peter’s.

North Carolina is far from finished, as they’ll now turn their attention to their Final Four (and first-ever NCAA Tournament battle) against heated rival Duke. For Bacot, he’ll have a chance to record his 30th double-double of the season, which would make him the first-ever Tar Heel to accomplish the feat.
