The Yankees announced over the weekend that they have claimed outfielder Jeisson Rosario off waivers from the Boston Red Sox and optioned him to Double-A Somerset, and signed RHP Shelby Miller to a minor-league deal with a camp invite.

Miller, 31, was the No. 19 overall pick in 2009 by the Cardinals, and is 38-57 with a 4.19 ERA in 163 games (132 starts) over nine MLB seasons with St. Louis, Atlanta, Arizona, Texas, the Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh, not including a 2020 season where he opted out due to COVID-19 concerns.

The righty was 15-9 with a 3.16 ERA in 31 starts for the Cardinals in 2013 and was third in NL Rookie of the Year voting, but had Tommy John surgery in 2017 and missed most of that year and most of 2018 due to the recovery and subsequent elbow inflammation.

Miller moved to the bullpen while with Texas in 2019 after posting a 9.51 ERA in nine starts, and he split 2021 between the Cubs and Pirates, posting a 9.24 ERA in 12 2/3 innings over 13 MLB relief outings.

Rosario, 22, spent 2021 at Double-A Portland, hitting .232 with three home runs, 36 RBI, and 11 steals in 98 games. Originally an international free agent signee of the Padres in July 2016, Rosario has a career slash line of .256/.366/.332 with 10 homers, 129 RBI, and 48 steals in 387 games over four seasons.
