The UNC basketball program has shown interest in one of the top offensive players currently in the transfer portal.

Let the recruiting of players in the transfer portal begin.

Although information about the transfer portal has been swirling since teams have recently ended their seasons, there hasn’t been much transfer portal talk regarding the UNC basketball program.

Of course, the Tar Heels have been focused on their NCAA Tournament run, but don’t be fooled in thinking that they haven’t been closely monitoring all possible options for next year and beyond.

In fact, North Carolina is now being linked to one of the top offensive players currently in the transfer portal.

Stockrisers founder Jake Weingarten reported that the Tar Heels are one of a handful of schools that have contacted Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves. As expected, there already is a heavy market one of the most talented overall prospects available.

Reeves is coming off a tremendous season for the Redbirds. As a junior, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged a career-high 20.1 points per game. He shot just under 47 percent from the floor while shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc.

Given his offensive prowess, it makes a lot of sense as to why the Tar Heels are actively recruiting him. Reeves is a player that could come in right away and be an impact scorer, something that next year’s team could definitely benefit from.

We don’t know what this North Carolina roster will look like come next season, but it is possible that a few key contributors may not be with the program. Knowing this, it wouldn’t hurt to add a player like Reeves who has experience under his belt and is ready to continue making an impact at the collegiate level.

It’s still rather early in his recruitment, given that he hit the portal just under a week ago. However, this is an interesting prospect to keep an eye on, as it is just the start of the Tar Heels process of identifying potential options that they can add to their future roster via the transfer portal.
