The best possible news for Bayern Munich came during the international break. The defending Bundesliga champions will be having the entire squad available for the next weekend’s game against Freiburg.

The most awaited comeback for Die Roten was that of Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka. Both players have been on the sidelines for more than two months. Since there is an ample amount of depth in the midfield, Bayern was able to compensate for the absence of Goretzka. His return to the squad will definitely make the team much stronger ahead of big games in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, the return of Davies will be the biggest boost for the squad. While speaking to the club’s media, the Canadian left-back expressed relief after getting the green light from the medical team to start training on the pitch.

Along with Davies, Nagelsmann is the most relieved person after getting positive feedback from the medical team on the full-back’s recovery. The Canadian left-back gives a completely different dimension to the starting XI and also makes Die Roten a much more threatening team in Europe.

In the absence of Alphonso Davies, Nagelsmann has tried to use a back three to get some sort of balance in the team. The outcome of this switch has been mixed as the team delivered inconsistent performances. Defensively, Rekordmeister has looked all over the place in the last couple of months.

The gung-ho approach of having wingers as wing-backs did yield better results in the final third. The return of Davies will allow Nagelsmann to use a back four, giving the team perfect balance in the attack and defense. Davies holds the width on the left and creates chances for his teammates. He has five assists to his name across all competitions.

Over the last couple of seasons, Davies has also improved defensively. The Canadian is much better positionally and less erratic than he used to be in 2019. His pace and improving defensive awareness allow Die Roten to defend well against counter-attacks.

Even though there is a lot of excitement about the return of Davies, Bayern will have to be patient in easing him back to action. It is all about building the match rhythm for the crucial games across Bundesliga and Champions League in the next couple of months. Nagelsmann would ideally like Davies ready to start the first leg of the CL quarterfinal against Villarreal.
