With spring ball underway, LSU players are transitioning from Ed Orgeron’s leadership style to new coach Brian Kelly’s. Saturday, Tigers quarterback Myles Brennan offered a candid take about what Kelly has brought to Baton Rouge.

Brennan said one of Kelly’s focal points is on accountability — and not just in a football sense. Kelly is all about making sure players are going to class, tutoring sessions and anything else they need to do. Brennan hinted that could be a change for some of the players, and they need to adjust to Kelly’s expectations.

“That’s one thing Coach Kelly’s been harping on is accountability,” Brennan said. “I know you have to talk about the standard board and the questionnaires every day and things like that. There’s really no pushing something to the side. If you’re late, you’re late and you’re going to pay the consequences. If you don’t show up for something, tutoring, class, everything’s mandatory.

“There’s no getting around it. If you don’t do it, you’re going to get caught. I think some guys may have previously have been able to get through it, and I think now they know we all have to be accountable to each other.”

Brian Kelly defines what successful spring will look like at LSU

Following a successful run as Notre Dame‘s head coach, Brian Kelly is now at LSU with plans to get the Tigers’ program back on track. While he’s been able to put together a veteran staff and land some players from the NCAA Transfer Portal, Kelly and his team are now going through spring practices as they prepare for the upcoming 2022 season.

Kelly – who compiled a 113-40 overall record in 12 seasons at Notre Dame – takes over an LSU team that is coming off a 6-7 campaign in 2021. There is plenty of work to do to get the Tigers back to a championship level.

Meeting with reporters earlier this week, Kelly broke down what a successful spring would look like for LSU.

“I think first and foremost, I think any coach wants to make sure that you’re healthy,” Kelly said. “You don’t want any kind of injuries that impact your roster. Having said that, you can’t go into a spring practice and afraid to compete. We’re going to go into it and we’re going to compete, we’re going to tackle, we’re going to do the things that you need to develop.”
