REPUBLIC, Washington — The inaugural Republic Breakfast Fly-In will be held July 2, 2022, at Ferry County Airport (R49).
The event is open to all pilots and the public. All funds raised will benefit the Republic Airport.
Pilots are welcome to fly in Friday night to camp at the rural airport, which overlooks Curlew Lake. Shuttles to the nearby town of Republic for hotel lodging, restaurants, and entertainment, will also be available, according to organizers.
A float plane dock at nearby Curlew Lake State Park is within easy walking distance to the airport, organizers added.
“We hope that we’ll have clear skies, comfortable camping, and a lower risk of smoke from wildfires by hosting the breakfast fly-in earlier in the summer,” said co-organizer Doug Barnes. “Since this is our first attempt at hosting a breakfast fly-in, we want to keep the event very simple. We have a beautiful airport, and hope to give other pilots a fun reason to fly-in — enjoy a great breakfast, the scenery, and the camaraderie of other pilots.”
Pilots may remember Republic Airport as the home of Wings over Republic, a more elaborate three-day event. The event was canceled several years in a row due to health issues, smoke events, bad weather, and then by COVID shutdowns. Wings over Republic has been postponed indefinitely.
