Bayern Munich wants to manage playing time of Thomas Muller
Robert Lewandowski has been the standout player for Bayern Munich in the last three years. The Bavarian club has managed to win all possible trophies during this period, including the historic sextuple. While Lewandowski deservedly got a lot of plaudits for his goalscoring exploits, Thomas Muller was an equally influential attacking player for Die Roten during the last three seasons.
Muller has reinvented himself into a creator after enduring a dip in form after the departure of Pep Guardiola in 2016. The German forward was even considering a move away from Bavaria when he was struggling for game time under Niko Kovac. Fortunately, things changed drastically after the arrival of Hansi Flick in 2019.
Ever since getting consistent playing time under Flick, Muller has managed to achieve an incredible consistency in the number ten role. He has been an assist machine, breaking several Bundesliga records in the past three seasons.
After the departure of Flick, there has been no change in the performance levels of Muller. He has been a vital player under Julian Nagelsmann. Going forward, Thomas Muller still has a big role to play for Die Roten. However, the Bavarian club has slightly different plans for him.
According to Sport1, Bayern wants to manage the playing time of Muller in the next few years. The German club wants to extend the contract of Muller but also wants him to understand that other young players need to be groomed that will eventually succeed him in the number ten role.
Muller’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season. The German forward remains relaxed about his future, which suggests that he is keen to stay in Bavaria. Die Roten is expected to open talks with him for a new deal in the next few months. The club hierarchy will most likely discuss about the management of his playing time during negotiations for a new deal.
Die Roten considers Jamal Musiala and Paul Wanner options in the attacking midfield role. The former is also considered as a candidate in central midfield, while there is a lot of expectations from the latter to become a crucial player in the first team. Over the coming years, both players are likely to become important players for club and country.

Apart from Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer are the other senior players in line for new deals. Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn is set to be involved in negotiations for new deals for the senior trio as he has reportedly decided to start working on transfers and contract renewals.
