Lakewood Rededicating John Ford Stadium On Saturday

It’s been about a year since construction on the new field turf and all-weather track started at Lakewood High, and John Ford Stadium is finally ready for its closeup.

The Lancers football program is rededicating the stadium on Saturday with a ceremony and alumni game to celebrate the event. The current football team will take the new field around 4:30 p.m. before the cheer team and band perform.

“We’re showing our respects to Coach Ford for all that he did to lay the foundation for the expectations and traditions of Lakewood football,” Lakewood coach and alum Justin Utupo said. “It’s exciting we’re able to honor him and bring the alumni back on campus to connect with our current players.”

There will be some special guest speakers around 5:30, and finally the invited former Lakewood football players will participate in the alumni game. Even coach Utupo said he might get in for a series of two-hand touch with fellow Lancer alums.

“No full pads though, I don’t think our trainers get paid enough,” Utupo laughed.

There will be food available for purchase, and the event should be over by 7:30. All are invited.
