It was an enjoyable trip home for Kyle Muller when Rutgers visited Sonny Pittaro Field on the campus of Rider University.

The former Steinert High star worked 2.1 innings and gained his first win of the season as the Scarlet Knights spoiled the Broncs’ home opener with a 5-2 win.

Muller, a graduate student, has made five appearances for Rutgers and has a 3.38 ERA. He has allowed just one walk and struck out six in eight innings.

During the 2021 season, Muller led the Scarlet Knights in appearances with 19.

Muller has been just as effective in the classroom.

He was named a 2020 and 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, he earned the 2021 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and he was on the 2021 Spring Academic All-Big Ten team.

Growing up in Hamilton Square and playing through the Nottingham Little League and Babe Ruth League and then at Post 31 and Steinert, it had to be a little extra special for Muller to earn a win on Sonny Pittaro Field.
