Kings player Richaun Holmes accused of domestic violence; Kings are ‘monitoring the situation’
The ex-wife of Sacramento Kings player Richaun Holmes has accused him of domestic violence and physically abusing his 6-year-old son, which he denies.
The Kings last week announced that Holmes would not be playing for the rest of the season due to personal reasons. This season he has struggled due to an eye injury but no reason was specified at the time for his exit. Notably, Kings general manager Monte McNair expressed support for Holmes in that statement, saying he “is a core member of our team, who is very important to our success” and the organization looked forward to seeing him back on the court next year.
Online court records filed on March 9 are labeled domestic violence and a hearing is set for March 30. KCRA 3 is working to obtain the documents.
Holmes sent a series of since-deleted tweets denying the allegations by his ex-wife, Allexis.
His mother also defended Holmes on Twitter, accusing the charges of being an effort to discredit him as part of a custody battle.
After The Sacramento Bee posted an opinion article about the domestic violence allegations, the Kings responded with a statement condemning domestic violence in general and saying the organization was monitoring the situation.
“The entire Sacramento Kings organization would like to express our strong stance against any form of assault and domestic violence,” the statement said. “We respect the legal process and will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
