We're only over a month away from the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and while the film has been dropping major goodies as of late, the Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen team-up project is still shrouded by mystery. The biggest rumor surrounding the film involves the X-Men who are said to be making their official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — well, some members of the mutants, at least.

If you paid close attention to the film's trailer, you can hear Patrick Stewart's voice during the interrogation sequence as Strange is being held captive in what looks to be the headquarters of the Illuminati. The Professor X actor has been playing it coy regarding his involvement in the film but previous rumors suggested that James McAvoy will be playing Charles Xavier in the sequel.

It was even reported at one point that Olsen's Wanda Maximoff will be going head-to-head with McAvoy's "prequel" version of the beloved mutant mentor. Well, it turns out that the rumors aren't true as James himself has finally broken his silence regarding the matter. In a recent Instagram live session, the actor was asked several times about his potential involvement in Doctor Strange 2, to which he replied "no".

I gotta say, it's hard to take James' word for it because there's an actual chance that he could be lying about not appearing in the film. But the idea does make a lot of sense when you think about it because there's no way Marvel Studios will put two versions of Professor X on the same film unless the story truly calls for it.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
