Newsom declares state of emergency in 16 counties due to October storm damage

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in 16 counties on Wednesday to help bolster their recovery from the damage caused by last October's storms.

The torrential rainstorms the week of October 21, 2021, created record-breaking rainfall and led to flooding and debris flow throughout the state. This caused damage to roadways and other infrastructure in several counties.

The ones included in Newsom's state of emergency are Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, Placer, Plumas, San Francisco, Solano, Sonoma, and Trinity to support their ongoing recovery from severe October storms that caused widespread damage to roads and other infrastructure.

Caltrans has been authorized to request immediate federal assistance from the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program, for various types of services, including highway repairs or reconstruction.
