Not only did Thompson beat Casey DeSmith twice in regulation, but he did so again in the shootout. The 6-foot-7 center has four goals in his last five games and 27 through 60 games this season. Thompson had just 18 goals in 145 games before this year. If the NHL had a Most Improved Player Award, Thompson would be a leading candidate.
