Sharks star Timo Meier could play Thursday vs. Oilers despite lower-body injury

Despite pulling off an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, the San Jose Sharks had a cloud hanging over them after top-line winger Timo Meier left the tilt with an apparent lower-body injury.

But it might not be all doom and gloom for Team Teal, as the Swiss forward could actually be good to go on Thursday when his team visits the Edmonton Oilers.

"Fingers crossed he'll be fine to play tomorrow," Sharks head coach Bob Boughner told the media Wednesday.

Meier exited in the third period of Tuesday's game after colliding against the boards with Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson and needed assistance getting off the ice and into the dressing room.

San Jose may be far out of the playoff picture by now, but losing their top scorer before the last month of the season would be absolutely crushing.

"Obviously, he's our offensive leader and for a team that struggles sometimes to find some offense that would have been a major blow," Boughner added.

Prior to being injured on Tuesday, Meier scored a goal from a sharp angle to help San Jose's comeback effort. The Sharks found themselves in an early 2-0 in the first period but rallied and scored two goals 28 seconds apart in the third period for a 4-3 win against the division-leading Flames.
