For about a year or so, we've already known a Chicago Med Season 8 is underway at NBC. And part of the question surrounding the incoming installment is the return of Dr. Dean Archer, who right now has been confirmed to appear on it!

Steven Weber Returns as Regular Cast for Chicago Med Season 8

Weber has signed a new deal to return to Chicago Med Season 8 as Dr. Dean Archer, according to a report from Deadline. He had previously agreed to stay for Season 7 on a one-year deal.

Dr. Dean Archer of Weber is the current head of the E.D., whom his Gaffney Chicago Medical Center colleagues despise—though they can't dispute he's a terrific surgeon. That hate originates from three factors: his part in helping fan-favorite Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) be shot in the Season 6 finale, which helped him rise through the ranks; his proclivity to break the rules in order to get the job done; and his adversarial attitude toward patients.

Archer has recently demonstrated how coloring beyond the lines can be beneficial. In last week's episode, Archer and Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) offered Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) a second chance to restart her career after she went through addiction recovery.

A former Naval physician who also suffers from PTSD, he provides many patients with a unique point of view, despite the fact that it is an ongoing personal struggle for him—and often, Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt).

What to Expect Next on Chicago Med Season 8?

Since his arrival at the ED, Archer has undoubtedly been one of the more divisive characters, as he frequently conflicts with the other characters and doesn't always see things in the most ethical light. On the other hand, we've seen him demonstrate his humanity several times.

We're hoping that Weber's promotion will allow us to see more of Archer with Choi - after all, Tee is returning to the hospital soon! His position for Chicago Med Season 8 is unknown, but given their shared past, we'd like to see it addressed more on-screen. Before Choi's injury, we saw a lot of that in the second half of Season 6.
