PI Garden Club luncheon April 2

ROGERS CITY — The Presque Isle County Garden Club will hold its 11th annual garden luncheon and seminar on April 2 at the Senior Center in Rogers City. It’s been two years since the last one, and the club is excited to get growing again.

The theme this year is “Plant to Thrive” and will include four speakers, door prizes, and a fabulous lunch. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. for registration and refreshments. Speakers begin at 9:30 a.m. and the program will conclude by 3 p.m.

Annette Taratuta of Netta’s Greenhouses and Nursery will be sharing information about the new plants available for 2022. She brings the plants she is featuring, which makes spring seem closer.

Britany Vanderwall, Forester with the Presque Isle County Conservation District, will present Planting to Thrive — Native Trees and Shrubs for Northeast Michigan. Learn to love what grows in the climate you have.

Pat Schmidt, from Pat’s Posey Patch of Cheboygan, is presenting Garden Pointers by Pat, sharing information she has learned from her work in the nursery and planting gardens that stay fresh all summer.

Kris Sorgenfrei, member of the garden club, will present a lesson on Hellebores. These are plants that bloom first in the spring, are great for shady woodland areas and multiply slowly. Their best feature is that deer don’t like them, and they are easy care.

The cost for the day’s program is $25 per person which includes lunch, beverages, seminars, door prizes and handouts. Call to reserve your space by March 28. Call Jean at 989-619-0300 or Kris at 989-733-4056. You can also email pigardenclub1@yahoo.com.
