They're two of the Arkansas Razorbacks' most legendary NCAA Tournament shot makers, and they're smiling ear to ear.
Scotty Thurman, whose three pointer in 1994 secured the program's first national championship, and US Reed, whose 49-foot heave knocked out Louisville in 1981, told KATV they take tremendous pride in seeing the Hogs' second straight Sweet 16.
"We can walk around proud to know that the Razorbacks are now a name program in college basketball," Reed said.
These former Hog greats know a thing or two about what it takes to win this time of year. What would they tell these Razorbacks before facing No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga?
"When you're not picked to win the game, as we were when we played [the] defending champion Louisville Cardinals - they were picking them all the way - there's no pressure on you," Reed said. "You go out, relax and play with a chip on your shoulder and really show the world that we can play with anybody, which they can."
"I think you just use it as fuel for the fire," Thurman said. "If you go back to the beginning of the year, no one expected this team to be here. No one expected them to win the last game, no one expected them to win the first game, no one expected them to finish top four in the SEC. So it's been going on all year.
"So to me, I would tell my team, 'hey, let's continue to use that stuff as fuel for the fire and just come out and play your butts off. At the end of the day, you don't have anything to lose. Nobody's expecting you to win anyways, with the exception of the Arkansas faithful.'
"So I would say, 'go out and represent the state the best way you can.'"
