The Colts aren't the only team that keep pining for Andrew Luck.

An ESPN story detailing how Washington acquired Carson Wentz in a trade from the Colts says the Commanders reached out to Luck early in the offseason.

Experts grade Colts trade for Matt Ryan:'A masterstroke in an offseason of rapid movement'

Insider:How Matt Ryan will change the Colts' offense

"Rodgers wasn't going to be traded and Seattle rejected Washington's offer of three first-round picks. Watson's legal issues, among other factors, made him a no-go. The Commanders also watched film of many other quarterbacks just in case," John Keim wrote. "At one point they even wondered: Would Andrew Luck, the retired former Colt, want to play again? That went nowhere. But whether it was realistic or a Lloyd Christmas 'So you're telling me there's a chance' scenario, they wanted to make sure every i' was dotted."

What's next for Andrew Luck?:'He wants to make an impact in our society.'

Andrew Luck comebacks:He could've come back to the Colts plenty of times. He never has.

Prior to acquiring Carson Wentz in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, the Washington Commanders checked to see if Andrew Luck was available.

It should be noted that Luck remains under contract to the Colts and a team would have to provide compensation to Indianapolis to acquire him.

A significantly slimmed down Andrew Luck made an appearance at Lucas Oil Stadium for the national title game between Alabama and Georgia and talked about fatherhood, not returning to the NFL.

Keim writes that the Commanders checked on Wentz's availability prior to the NFL Combine, but were told he wasn't available. However, that tune changed not long after.

Wentz will be Washington's 33rd quarterback since it won the Super Bowl in 1992.
