Former Real Madrid legend and current PSG defender Sergio Ramos has had a season to forget so far. He couldn’t begin the season as one of the fit players of the squad, being sidelined with a calf injury.

Having missed 32 games this season already, the 2021-22 season has become his worst season appearance-wise. Injuries have not really let the soon-to-be 36-year old get his PSG career up and running.

As such, there were murmurs in the French media about Sergio Ramos and PSG deciding to part ways at the end of the season.

And it made sense. It made sense for both parties as the relationship wasn’t being fruitful to either side; PSG had told Ramos that he wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter, but he hasn’t been fit to even be among the rotational players, while Ramos’ season has been wrecked by injuries. He hasn’t been able to catch a break.

Sergio Ramos thinks he can turn things around in his career

However, according to a report from L’Équipe (via Get French Football News), Sergio Ramos wants to honor his contract – which ends in June 2023 – and see it out.

The defender believes he can overturn his situation at the club and overcome his injury woes as he returns to training with the team, eyeing a return to the lineup against Lorient after the international break.

Sergio Ramos will be 36 at the beginning of next season. He doesn’t have much football left in him. And if injuries continue to play spoilsport, Ramos may not even be able to make the most of whatever’s left in him. Finding a top European club might or might not be difficult for him.

His injury problems may become a big red flag for interested clubs, while it is a well-known fact that he was playing some of the best football before parting ways with Real Madrid, which may attract interest. Plus, he’s one of the greatest defenders ever.

It makes a lot of sense for Ramos to complete his contract in Paris, and then figure out what to do come the 2023-24 season when he will have turned 37.
