Niles West announced last month that Thomas Moore will be taking the place of current superintendent, Dr. Steven Isoye, for the upcoming school years. The Niles West News was able to sit down with Moore and ask a few questions regarding his life in and out of school.

1. What is your favorite food?

I love sandwiches of any kind. If I had to choose a particular sandwich, it would be a chicken salad sandwich. I would rather have some lunch with just a sandwich than have dinner or breakfast.

2. What is your favorite movie?

Yes, “Remember the Titans.” If that comes on, I can’t turn it off. I also really love “The Shawshank Redemption,” and those are my top two movies. If that comes on, I have watch it.

3. What is your favorite show?

“Ted Lasso” is my favorite show. I love that show so much, and I could watch it over and over again. If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it is about an American football coach that goes and coaches soccer in England. He’s an optimist, so it makes up for his lack in knowledge about soccer. I also really like Friday Night Lights.

4. What is your favorite sport and which team?

The New England Patriots are my favorite sports team and football is my favorite sport. That’s going to be a tough adjustment here, but my wife did get me a Bears sweatshirt, so I’m going to have to maybe adopt them. Aside from the Patriots though, the Red Sox are so close to being my other favorite team.

5. Do you have a favorite place to travel?

My favorite place I have ever been to is Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. I love it there so much especially because I studied European history and taught European history. I also like Normandy in France, [they] are my two favorite places I have ever been.

6. Do you have any pets?

I don’t, I’m horribly allergic, as is my son, to all fur, so we’re a non-cat and non-dog family. My daughter had some fish growing up but that was about it.

7. How old are your children?

I have a son, Jack, who is 22 and a senior graduating from the University of North Carolina, and he’s actually going to graduate school in Paris for the next couple years studying International Development. My daughter, Fallon, is at the University of Virginia and she’s 20.

8. What are your hobbies?

I like to golf especially when it is warm out. I also like to go outside and go on long walks, which is something I was taking advantage of doing in COVID because where I lived there was a five-mile walking trail. We also had so much weather hit Connecticut during that time, but it wasn’t going to stop me from walking because, over the past 25 years, I’ve walked five miles in a blizzard and in a hurricane. It’s just something I ended up doing every day with my wife.

9. Where did you grow up?

I’m actually from Massachusetts from the town next to Foxborough where the Patriots play. I’ve also noticed that the town I’ve lived in and Skokie have the exact same amount of snow per year. I don’t love the winter, but it’s not like it truly bothers me. I actually went to college at the University of Massachusetts and then I got my master’s in history from the University of Connecticut, and my administrative degree from Southern Connecticut. I’ve lived in Connecticut for 30 years since my wife and I got married and lived in Massachusetts for 22 years. In Connecticut, my favorite place was my high school because I lived right next door to it, so I could just walk home.

10. What are you looking forward to at Niles West?

I’m looking forward to meeting the kids here. I just want to come to see the classes, meet kids, I want to be around that energy that the kids bring, to be back in a place that’s focused on high school, I’m really excited about that because that’s where I love being around.
