The Seattle Seahawks are retaining one of their playmakers on offense, as running back Rashaad Penny has agreed to sign a one-year, $5.75 million deal, per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Penny reportedly turned down more money from other teams to remain with Seattle, and his new one-year deal has a max of $6.5 million.

At $5.75 million, Penny will be the 16th highest-paid running back in the NFL this season, per Over The Cap. The No. 27 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft had a career year this past season, rushing for 749 yards and six touchdowns. Penny had an incredible run at the end of the year, rushing for at least 135 yards in four out of the final five games of the regular season, including a career-high 190 yards against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18.

The San Diego State product was seen as somewhat of a bust due to his high draft status and injury history. He hasn't played more than 10 games in any of the last three seasons. Still, he's shown flashes that explain why the Seahawks were so high on him. In 37 career games, Penny has rushed for 1,572 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Seattle also has Chris Carson at running back, who signed a two-year deal last March. However, he played just four games in 2021 due to a neck injury. The Seahawks are still looking for their next quarterback, but they now have two solid options at running back.
