SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the Florida Panthers have acquired defenseman Robert Hagg from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft (previously acquired by Florida from Calgary).
"Robert is a tireless competitor and a physical defenseman who will add depth to our blueline," said Zito.
Hagg, 27, has skated in 48 NHL games with Buffalo in 2021-22, producing eight points (1-7-8). Hagg led Buffalo skaters with 97 hits, 91 blocked shots and 2:23 shorthanded time on ice per game.
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Uppsala, Sweden has played in 284 career NHL games with Buffalo (2021-22) and the Philadelphia Flyers (2016-17 to 2020-21), amassing 55 points (14-41-55). Over 14 Stanley Cup playoff games with Philadelphia in 2017-18 and 2019-20, Hagg notched three assists.
Hagg has also skated in 202 American Hockey League (AHL) games with the Lehigh Valley/Adirondack Phantoms (2013-14 to 2016-17), logging 50 points (16-34-50).
On the international stage, Hagg has earned Silver Medals representing Sweden at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2013 and 2014. He also appeared in eight games with Sweden at the 2019 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia.
Prior to his North American career, Hagg played in 77 Swedish Hockey League (SHL) games with MODO Hockey from 2012-13 to 2013-14, posting seven points (1-6-7).
Hagg was originally selected by Philadelphia in the second round (41st overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
