Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, Saturday Spotlight is dedicated to discovering the next star. This week, we received over 50 unique submissions, below are the two picks!

Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.

GetItRogers

Hailing from San Bernardino, CA., multi-faceted GetItRogers writes, sings, raps, and engineers his own music, proving that it truly is possible to do it all – and do it well. Since the release of his first track ‘DND’ in 2017, GetItRogers has spent the last five years honing his craft with an extended catalogue of 37 tracks and two albums. His latest project New Season is a three-part album with raw honesty, and poetic lyricism, demonstrating his ability to flex introspective subject matter using smooth flows on hard beats.

‘EVER CLEAR’ sees the artist share his innermost thoughts with delivery that feels matter-of-fact, almost as though he were reading from a journal. He begins the track with heavy bars: “2021’s been feeling the darkest, tryna find the light/My sight is ever-clear, I’m feeling cautious/And I don’t know who to trust no more/My guard is up, I don’t trust no more/I’m heartless.” The melody is an immediate hook, highlighting GetItRogers’ songwriting ability. As the beat drops, his flow becomes more jagged, a little out of pocket – but this is what makes him unique. Watch below.

Shabaam Sahdeeq

Shabaam Sahdeek & Nick Wiz bring old-school back with ‘Just Do It’, a motivational track jam-packed with impactful bars, potent delivery, and a head-bopping flow, with Nick Wiz’ beat being the perfect catalyst to Sahdeek’s artistry.

From playing golf to tennis, Sahdeeq uses sports as a metaphor for achieving your goals. Of course, the athletic motif is recurrent with the Nike slogan ‘Just Do It’, and Sahdeeq’s placement of the Nike brand itself in the video. The song itself is a testament to Sahdeeq’s own ability to achieve his goals — the beat kicks off like sprinters in a race, with Sahdeeq entering with hard-hitting delivery: “Stay fly, stay motivated, stay hydrated/Steps of perfection on the road to greatness.”

Perhaps what makes this song most powerful is the hook, simple and catchy with Nick Wiz elevating the beat with extra hype. “I don’t follow the crowd, I move through ’em/I don’t sleep on my goals, I pursue ’em/I don’t talk about moves, I just do it/And when it comes to the bars, it’s just fluid”.

With a pen perfected over years of practice, Shabaam Sahdeeq shows no signs of slowing down or stepping down. Check it out below.
