Jones (ankle) is set to begin baseball activities but has not been cleared to play, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Jones underwent ankle surgery in September after suffering a high-ankle sprain. He's a little bit behind the expected pace, but it's not clear if he'll miss Triple-A Columbus' Opening Day. He'll need to take a step up in 2022 after finishing last year with a .238/.356/.431 slash line, 13 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 48 RBI and 60 runs scored in 407 plate appearances. If he receives his call-up this season, he'd likely get a look in the outfield or at first base -- Jose Ramirez is the Guardians' everyday third baseman, which somewhat blocks Jones at his natural position.
