Just months after ABC assembled Brandy, Chaka Khan, and others for a star-studded primetime special about the life and times of late Pop icon Whitney Houston (as we reported here), CBS is following suit with a similarly-themed program titled ‘Whitney: A Look Back.’
More inside:
Presented in partnership with ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ ‘A Look Back’ – which will arrive nearly two months after the 10th anniversary of Houston’s passing – will chronicle the legacy of the larger-than-life diva with the unveiling of rare moments like never-before-seen interview clips and lost performances.
With special guest appearances from Dionne Warwick, Clive Davis, Monica, CeCe Winans, Kelly Price, and others, the one-hour special will also feature commentary from the aforementioned and many others who knew Whitney best.
“The past 10 years is like 10 minutes or 10 days to me,” Monica said. “When I think about Whitney, the first thing that I picture is her smile. It was something that, believe it or not, she never lost. No matter what was happening, her smile was the first thing you saw. Even on a sad day, she would smile at you first… Selflessness, that was her.”
‘Whitney: A Look Back’ will air April 2, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
The television event is one of many tied to Houston expected to roll out over the next year. In addition to a big screen biopic, ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody,’ the legendary songstress is tied to multiple new albums, a Broadway bio-musical, and a hologram tour.
