Alexandra Daddario is getting a bit of magic in her blood, as she’s been tapped to star in the Mayfair Witches series for AMC+. Variety reports that the True Detective and San Andreas co-star has signed on to play Rowan, the lead character in the series adaptation of Anne Rice’s novels. Rowan is described as “a brilliant doctor who grapples with her fate as the heir to a family of powerful witches.”

“Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will be a centerpiece of an expanding Anne Rice universe on AMC+ and AMC,” said Dan McDermott, the president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We found our Rowan and can’t wait for her to meet viewers later this year in a series being brilliantly conceived and led by Esta, Michelle and Mark.”

Daddario has also starred in shows like Why Women Kill and The Girlfriend Experience, and the films We Summon The Darkness and Baywatch, among others. Mayfair Witches has an eight-episode first season order from AMC and will launch on AMC+ later this year.

AMC has also been at work on an adaptation of the late author’s other famed novel series, The Vampire Chronicles, with Interview With the Vampire currently in production.
