Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan met with staff at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital Thursday about the benefits of art therapy for patients.
In 2017, Hogan launched the Children’s Art for Recovery, Empowerment and Strength Foundation or CARES at the Baltimore hospital. Hogan was inspired to create the foundation after her husband, Gov. Larry Hogan, received treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Art therapy is now available to all pediatric patients and their siblings at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital.
Hogan's foundation is looking to expand art therapy by extending the program to more Maryland hospitals. Hogan said that, through art therapy, children can build resiliency and coping skills that may assist them as they work through their treatment and recovery.
