Reid said he can never replace Tyrann Mathieu, but he can be the best Justin Reed possible.

"I'm so excited about the opportunity that I have, and that we have."Justin Reid is ready to suit up in red. The free-agent safety signed by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week was at Arrowhead Stadium today and met with the media to talk about the decision to come to KC, all while the ink dried on his new contract.Reid said while financial aspects can't be ruled out, ultimately, he wanted to play for a championship-caliber team, and that's what brought him to Kansas City. "I had a few options," Reid said. "I wanted to play for a championship-quality, championship-caliber team."Reid said Kansas City felt like the right place, and best situation and fit for him.“We’re very excited to add an impact player like Justin to our roster," said Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach. "He’s young and has proven himself with consistent playmaking ability over the last four years. On top of that, he’s incredibly smart and physical. He’ll be a strong addition to Coach Spagnuolo’s defense.”Reid had the chance to play with safety Tyrann Mathieu during Reid’s rookie year with the Houston Texans, and said he had the chance to learn from Mathieu."His pregame speeches were second-to-none," Reid said. Reid said the Chiefs had something amazing in Mathieu, and that while he can never replace him, he hopes to be a leader like Mathieu, and be the best Justin Reid he can be. Reid added that while his previous visits to Arrowhead Stadium (in the opposing team's uniform) haven't panned out, he's excited to play with the Chiefs Kingdom atmosphere."I'm really excited to actually be on the field while the crowd is going crazy," Reid said.In four seasons in the NFL, all with the Texans, Reid played in 57 games, recorded 304 tackles with 220 solo, marked 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and seven career interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. When asked what fans can expect out of him, Reid said: "You can expect a guy that's going to be not only physical, but a guy that's going to make plays on the ball."Reid added as part of his excitement to come to Kansas City, he knows he'll be playing with a dynamic, competitive team."As long as there's time on the clock, there's always a chance to win," Reid said.In a news release issued by the team Thursday, Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said, "Justin is a smart, talented and tough young player. He’s got the right attitude, he’s ready to work, and we’re happy he’s a Chief.”
