Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham is teaming up with Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley for a new Disney+ movie.

The Line of Duty actor will star in the adaptation of the Glenn Stout book, Young Woman and The Sea that is set to premiere on the streaming platform.

The series will follow the daring journey of the first woman, Gertrude "Trudy" Ederle played by Ridley, to ever swim across the English Channel in 1926.

The competitive swimmer also went on to win gold in the 1924 Olympics, as well as swimming the 22 miles from Battery Park in New York to Sandy Hook in New Jersey in a record time, which she held for 81 years.

Trudy sold her story to two newspapers and set out to be the first woman to swim across the channel, after five men had already completed it.

Alongside Ridley and Graham, it has also been confirmed that I Am Woman star Tilda Cobham-Hervey will appear in the new Disney+ film as Ridley's sister.

The actress is best known for her critically-acclaimed role as musician and activist Helen Reddy in I Am Woman. The movie will be directed by Joachim Rønning, while the script is written by Jeff Nathanson.

Meanwhile Graham is known for his role as Hayden Stagg in the BBC one series Peaky Blinders and Marvel's Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Peaky Blinders show creator Steven Knight opened up about Graham's role in season 6.

He said: "I've always wanted him to be in it. A character was starting to develop in the Liverpool docks. And you just think, well, there can be nobody else for this character. So it's somebody who comes up against Tommy, who isn't an enemy, really."

Peaky Blinders series 6 airs on Sundays at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
