Reliever Brad Boxberger went 5-4 with a 3.34 ERA, four saves and 20 holds over 64⅔ innings.

PHOENIX – Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell was asked if he felt the bullpen could use a little more experience.

"I think good’s great," he quipped. "Good or great would be better than experience."

A few hours later Milwaukee added both experience and talent by announcing it was welcoming right-hander Brad Boxberger back into the fold on a one-year deal worth a reported $2.5 million as well as an additional $550,000 in performance bonuses.

The Brewers also hold a team option for 2023.

Boxberger, who turns 34 on May 27, went from failing to make the opening-day roster in 2021 to one of Counsell's most trusted and effective relievers by posting a 5-4 record, 3.34 earned run average and WHIP of 1.07 in a team-leading and career-high 71 appearances.

Boxberger also struck out 83 in 64⅔ innings and recorded four saves with 23 holds as well pitching anywhere from the fourth through the ninth.

With Boxberger pitching the seventh, Devin Williams the eighth and Josh Hader the ninth, the back end of the Brewers' bullpen should once again be a formidable one.
