Anthony Roth Costanzo & Daniela Mack Lead Boston Baroque’s ‘Amadigi di Gaula’

By Francisco Salazar

Boston Baroque is set to perform Händel’s “Amadigi di Gaula.”

The performances, which are are to be performed between April 21 and April 24, will be livestreamed on the global streaming platform IDAGIO.

Martin Pearlman will conduct the production by Louisa Muller. The opera will star countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, making his role debut as Amadigi, and mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack as Dardano.

They will be joined by soprano Amanda Forsythe as Melissa, and soprano Camille Ortiz as Oriana.

In a statement, Louisa Muller noted, “Although it is one of Händel’s spectacular ‘magic’ operas, Amadigi is at its heart an exquisitely intimate story about the value of humility and kindness and the redemptive power of forgiveness. Boston Baroque’s approach to a new production of a first-rate rarity in a non-traditional theatrical space, experimenting with a hybrid model of live audience and streaming, is so exciting, and makes me grateful to be part of Boston Baroque’s bold plans for the future.”
