Trevor Bayne won the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.
For Bayne, 31, it is his eighth career Xfinity Series pole and his first since 2014 at Iowa Speedway.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver claimed the position with a top speed of 131.839 mph around the 1-mile track.
“That was nerve-racking,” Bayne told Fox Sports of having to watch other drivers take a shot his lap. “I haven’t experienced that kind of nerves in quite a while. Going out that early you know there’s only one way to go and that’s to get knocked down. I can’t explain to what it feels like to be back here, to be fast.”
Bayne is joined on the front row by Noah Gragson (131.565 mph). The Xfinity Series race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

The top five is completed by Ty Gibbs, Ryan Sieg and Brandon Jones.
In sixth is 18-year-old Parker Retzlaff, who is set to make his first career Xfinity Series start driving for Ryan Sieg Racing.
There was a weird incident near the beginning of qualifying when David Starr appeared to leave to early for his run while Loris Hezemans was still on his. Starr then spun exiting Turn 2, resulting in Hezemans having to narrowly avoid him on the backstretch. Both were allowed to make another attempt later.
Anthony Alfredo didn’t make a qualifying run or a practice run due to a broken part. Ryan Vargas also didn’t make a run in either session due to an issue.
Practice
Prior to qualifying teams took part in a 20-minute practice session.
Ty Gibbs topped the session with a best speed of 130.40 mph.
He was followed by Sam Mayer (130.37 mph), Bayne (130.30), Gragson (129.03) and Brett Moffitt (129.93).
There were no incidents in the session.
