The Drummond family's holiday table just got a little more crowded!
This year, Alex's new husband Mauricio spent Thanksgiving in Pawhuska, Oklahoma for the very first time. While he's been around for plenty of other special occasions, like the Fourth of July and Easter Sunday, this was the first *major* holiday that Mauricio spent with Alex since they got married in May.
During a special Thanksgiving-themed episode of #AskAlex, Ree joined Alex, Paige, and Mauricio to chat about their evolving holiday traditions.
"Those of you who joined together with a spouse...do you remember the very first holiday where you kind of broke away and went to your spouse's house for the holiday?" Ree asked @ThePioneerWomanMag followers. "Well, that's Mauricio! This is his first holiday away from home."
Mauricio jokingly pretended to cry in the background as Ree explained that they'd have to be "tender" with him this year. (Don't worry—he was actually really excited for all the food!)
Later this month, it will be Alex's turn to celebrate a big holiday without her usual crew.
"I will be spending Christmas with Mauricio's family," Alex said. "We're kind of flip-flopping."
Paige was quick to chime in that without her sister around, she hopes to "get double the gifts." Sorry, Paige—we don't think it works that way!
Aside from missing their loved ones, Alex and Mauricio's biggest challenge with sharing holidays will be adjusting to each other's different schedules. The Drummonds always eat "dinner" at 1 p.m., which is technically more of a lunch. Mauricio's family, on the other hand, doesn't serve the big meal until well after most folks have finished eating.
"I grew up eating at 10 p.m. That's just what we did," Mauricio explained. "It's a long night and it ends at like, 4 a.m."
Maybe someday, Alex and Mauricio will start a new tradition: having dinner at dinnertime! 😂
