The Montreal Canadiens are a popular topic at the moment. Chris Johnston from TSN has confirmed that the NHL will announce that Montreal will be the host of the 2022 NHL Draft. Now it seems that rumors are leaking that teams around the NHL has inquired about Joel Armia.

This is according to Darren Dreger who broke the news on TSN 690.

Darren Dreger doesn’t hit for 1.000, but he has carved a reputation for being a solid insider, so this piece of information can be true and of course very interesting, indeed.

Joel Armia is having a disastrous season with the Montreal Canadiens. The hulking 6’4″ 218 lbs right winger has only managed to score 2 goals and 5 assists in 41 games this year. This is exactly half the point production from last season where he played 41 games and amassed 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points.

Armia has been the center of much criticism as of late, being virtually the only player not to show any signs of improvement under new head coach Martin St. Louis.

Originally a 1st round pick, 16th overall of the Buffalo Sabres in 2011, Armia was part of the trade that sent Evander Kane from Winnipeg to Buffalo in 2015.

Just before free agency were to open, the Canadiens pulled the trigger on a trade in 2018 that would send Armia to La Belle Province.

The Canadiens would then immediately terminate Steve Mason’s contract as per the deal agreement.

In 2019-20 he posted a career high in goals with 16 and points with 30. In 377 career games with the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, Armia amassed 64 goals and 68 assists for 132 points.

This past off-season, former General Manager Marc Bergevin, reward Armia with a 4 year contract worth $13.6 million. His salary cap hit counts for $3.4 million.
